Fire Behaviour, Pipe Sizes & Technical Comparison

Characteristic Parameters of Fire Behaviour

a) Ignitability

When exposed to heat, Polyurethane Foam remains stable up to a temperature of 190°C to 200°C. Longer exposure to elevated temperature may result in melting and decomposition. The flash ignition value of 290°C – 300°C was obtained using the Setchkin apparatus in accordance with ASTM D 1920(53).

b) Contribution to Flame Spread

The contribution to Flame Spread of rigid Polyurethane foam is considerably reduced if provided with non-combustible facings such as Aluminium foil. Composite building materials attain a favourable fire safety classification such as DIN 4102, NEN 3383, BS 476 etc.

Thermal Conductivity

Rigid Polyurethane foam is characterised by its unrivalled insulating effect. The closed cells are filled with the vaporised blowing agent, which has an extremely low thermal conductivity. The rigid polyurethane foam, enclosed and impervious to diffusion, achieves calculated values of 0.020 W/m°K or lesser.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about our EPS Thermopore and Polyurethane (PU) insulation products.

About EPS Thermopore / Thermopole
What is EPS Thermopore and what is it used for?+
EPS (Expanded Polystyrene), commonly known as Thermopore or Thermopole in Pakistan, is a lightweight rigid foam insulation material used for thermal insulation in construction (walls, roofs, floors), cold chain packaging, fish boxes, custom product packaging, and pipe insulation.
What is the difference between Thermopore and Thermopole?+
Thermopore and Thermopole are simply two different spellings of the same product — both refer to Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) insulation. In Pakistan, both names are used interchangeably. Islamuddin & Sons manufactures both standard and custom EPS products.
What EPS products does Islamuddin & Sons manufacture?+
We manufacture five main EPS product lines: EPS Thermopore Blocks (densities 10–32 kg/m³, standard 16ft × 4ft, thicknesses 4″–40″), EPS Insulation Sheets (multiple grades), EPS Insulation Pipes, EPS Boxes for cold chain and logistics, and EPS Custom Packaging moulded to your exact product specifications.
Can I order EPS products in custom sizes?+
Yes, absolutely. All our EPS products are available in custom dimensions, thicknesses, densities, and grades. We specialise in custom orders. Simply contact us with your requirements and we will provide a quote.
Is EPS Thermopore safe for food packaging?+
Yes. Our EPS boxes and packaging products are safe for food contact applications including fish transport, fresh produce, meat, and dairy. EPS is chemically inert, non-toxic, and does not contaminate food products.
About Polyurethane (PU) Products
What is Polyurethane (PU) insulation and why is it used?+
Polyurethane (PU/PUR) foam insulation is a closed-cell rigid foam providing the highest thermal resistance per inch of any standard insulation material. It is used in construction, cold rooms, HVAC pipe insulation, and specialist products like fishing floats.
What PU products does Islamuddin & Sons manufacture?+
We manufacture four PU product lines: PU Insulation Sheets for construction and industrial applications, PU Insulation Pipes for HVAC and industrial pipeline insulation, PU 90° Elbow / Bend Sections for moulded pipe-bend insulation, and PU Fishing Floats for fishing, aquaculture, and marine applications.
How durable are PU Fishing Floats?+
Our PU fishing floats are manufactured with UV-resistant polyurethane foam, giving them excellent durability in outdoor and marine environments. They maintain their buoyancy and shape over extended periods even when exposed to sunlight and saltwater.
EPS vs PU — Choosing the Right Product
What is the difference between EPS and PU insulation?+
PU has a higher R-value per inch (better thermal performance), making it superior where space is limited. EPS is more affordable, easier to shape, and excellent for most standard applications. EPS is ideal for packaging, boxes, and general construction; PU is preferred for cold rooms, HVAC, and maximum thermal performance in thinner profiles.
Which insulation should I use for a cold room?+
For cold rooms, PU insulation panels are generally recommended due to their superior thermal performance and lower moisture absorption. However, EPS is also used in many cold room applications. Our technical team can advise on the best product for your project.
Ordering & Delivery
What is the minimum order quantity?+
Minimum order quantities vary by product. Standard products can be ordered in smaller quantities, while custom moulded products may require a minimum volume. Please contact us with your requirements for a specific MOQ and quotation.
Do you deliver across Pakistan?+
Yes, we deliver nationwide across Pakistan. Delivery timelines depend on product type, quantity, and your location. Contact us for specific delivery information.
How do I get a price quote?+
Request a quote through our Contact Us page, by calling us directly, or by WhatsApp. Please include product type, dimensions, quantity, and delivery location for the most accurate quotation. We typically respond within 24 hours.
Company & Quality
How long has Islamuddin & Sons been in business?+
Islamuddin & Sons was established in 1969 — making us one of the longest-standing thermal insulation manufacturers in Pakistan with over 55 years of experience. We are a family business with three generations of expertise in EPS Thermopore and Polyurethane manufacturing.
What quality standards do your products meet?+
Our products are manufactured under strict in-house quality control processes. Every product undergoes multi-stage inspection from raw material receipt through to final dispatch, ensuring consistent quality with every order.
What is thermocol made of?+
Thermocol is made of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) — a lightweight, rigid plastic foam manufactured by expanding small polystyrene beads using steam. The expanded beads are then fused together into blocks, sheets, pipes, boxes, or custom shapes. Thermocol, thermopore, thermopole, styrofoam, and EPS all refer to the same fundamental material.
What is the difference between thermocol and EPS?+
There is no difference — thermocol and EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) are the same product. Thermocol is the common Indian and Pakistani name, EPS is the technical name, and the brand names Thermopore and Thermopole are also widely used in Pakistan. Styrofoam is another commonly used name for the same material.
Where can I buy thermopore, EPS or thermocol in Karachi?+
Islamuddin & Sons manufactures and supplies EPS Thermopore (thermocol / styrofoam) directly from our Korangi Industrial Area facility in Karachi. We supply all over Pakistan and have been the trusted source for major brands, hospitals, malls, and industrial buyers since 1969. Visit our facility at Plot 39, Sector 28, Korangi Industrial Area, or contact us on +92 21 3506 4699 or +92 21 3504 9982.
Are styrofoam boxes and thermopore boxes the same thing?+
Yes — styrofoam boxes, thermocol boxes, and thermopore boxes are all the same product. They are insulated cold-chain containers manufactured from EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) foam. We supply these boxes in custom sizes, wall thicknesses, and lid configurations for food, pharmaceuticals, fish transport, vaccines, and other temperature-sensitive goods.
What is rigid polyurethane foam (PUR) and how is it different from EPS?+
Rigid polyurethane foam (PU / PUR) is a closed-cell, high-performance insulation material with a thermal conductivity of approximately 0.020 W/m·K — the lowest of any standard insulation material, meaning the best insulating power per inch of thickness. Compared to EPS (0.035–0.040 W/m·K), PU provides nearly twice the insulation value at the same thickness, but is more expensive. PU is preferred for cold rooms, HVAC, and applications where space is limited.
What are fishing floats made of?+
Our fishing floats are manufactured from rigid polyurethane (PU) foam — a closed-cell, low-density material that is naturally buoyant, durable, and UV-resistant. Compared to EPS floats, PU floats maintain their shape and buoyancy longer in marine environments. We supply fishing floats and buoys in custom shapes, sizes, and colours for fishing fleets, aquaculture, and marine applications across Pakistan.
